What is cone beam technology?
At Implant and General Dentistry of Long Island in Melville, NY, we are always reviewing and investing in the latest technologies to provide patients with the most beneficial services on the market today. We are excited to use some of the most advanced solutions to provide definitive diagnostic care for new and returning patients. With our cone beam 3D CT (computed tomography) machine, we are able to view what is going on in the smile to offer the best possible treatment for our patients.
What is cone beam 3D CT dental imaging?
Drs. Dean and Renee Glasser of Implant and General Dentistry of Long Island describe the cone beam 3D CT dental imaging services as a specialized and advanced x-ray device that allows them to get the best possible picture of a patient’s smile. Not only does this help in diagnosing certain conditions, but it also allows for the planning of placing dental implants. Traditional x-rays have a fan-shaped appearance to their x-ray beams, while the cone beam imaging system has a funnel or cone-shaped appearance to the x-ray beams.
What are the benefits of using cone beam 3D CT dental imaging?
3D imaging isn’t necessary for every patient who has diagnostic imaging done in our practice. However, it is extremely useful in the planning and performance of certain procedures such as tooth extractions, TMJ/TMD diagnostics, dental implant planning, and to prepare for root canal therapy. This technology uses approximately the same amount of x-ray radiation as a traditional x-ray machine, but offers the clinicians the benefits of having a more comprehensive view of the smile to make planning and diagnostics more accurate.
